Partnered Research Program
The Partnered Research Program supports projects that address ArcticNet’s key priorities in Well-Being, Infrastructure, Energy, Ecosystems, Economy.
Eligible recipients include:
- Post-secondary institutions;
- Research hospitals;
- First Nations, Inuit (as recognized by the Inuit Nunangat Policy), and Métis and Territorial organizations and governments;
- Research networks;
- Public engagement networks;
- Companies that deliver public engagement activities;
- Start-up companies (including those housed in Canadian post-secondary-linked incubators).
Note: Eligible recipients do not include federal departments, agencies or crown corporations of the Government of Canada.
Projects must actively engage Indigenous and Northern partners to ensure a meaningful integration of academic, local, and Indigenous knowledge systems. Successful research teams will demonstrate diversity across disciplines, institutions, knowledge systems, and geographic areas.
Research teams can apply for funding for up to three years, from April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2028.
Funding is available for projects of various sizes:
Small projects: $25-75K per year
Medium projects: $75-200K per year
Large projects: $200-400K per year

- Will there be another call for proposals in 2025?
No, there will not be a call for proposals in 2025 for the Partnered research program.
- Is there a minimum ratio of co-funding/in-kind contributions required?
No, there is no minimum ratio. However, applicants should indicate any additional sources of funding in their application form in the budget section. A preference may be given to application with a co-funding ratio of 1 :3.
If you wish to participate in the Génome-Québec partnership, a co-funding ratio of 1:1 is mandatory. Additionally, a minimum of $200,000 must be spent by an eligible Quebec institution, which can be provided by Génome-Québec instead of ArcticNet, and another $200,000 of expenses must be incurred within Quebec (by an academic institution or another funding source) to meet the 1:1 co-funding ratio of Génome-Québec.
- What is the total budget for the 2024 call for proposals for the Partnered research program?
The total budget for the 2024 call for proposals is $6.1 million over three years.
- Can the principal investigator transfer funds from ArcticNet to a co-investigator affiliated with a Canadian institution?
Co-investigators affiliated with Canadian institutions cannot receive funds directly from the principal investigator. However, the principal investigator may contract professional or technical services from a co-investigator and transfer funds based on an invoiced, justified amount.
- Are foreign students or post-docs eligible to receive funds from ArcticNet from the principal investigator?
Yes, foreign students or post-docs coming to study in a Canadian institution are eligible to receive funds from the principal investigator funded by ArcticNet.
- Are administrative costs eligible for funding?
Yes, administrative costs are eligible up to 15% of the total amount financed.
- How many applications can an applicant submit?
An applicant can be part of a maximum of 3 applications: 1 as a principal investigator and 2 as co-investigators.
